The Real History
What The Empire Is
Pictures
So here's the version that happened in reality:  ^_^

Setting: Grad School at Seton Hill University.  (Hogwarts without the train ride)  Farrell Hall Dorms.
Players: A group of highly educated adults and semi-adults who absolutely refuse to grow up.
Situation: Last night before graduation.  The last stand.  No one's had the time to play all week due to teaching modules, and thesis presentations.
The Result: A group of slightly sad, slightly exhilarated, and very bored writers eating pizza, drinking soda...and playing with napkins.

It started with just a simple wadded up papertowel . . . thrown across the room at someone else.
Not kidding, we entertained ourselves with a paper war for a good half hour.  It was really fun.  ^_^
But we knew that just beyond the door, down the hall and around the corner, others of our kind lurked in the common room.  Watching TV, sitting on the couch, and otherwise socializing.
What other choice did we have?  War had to be declared.
Quickly, we began making more ammunition.
But there was a traitor among us.  Our very own Queen Mother.  (She played "mom" to many of us youngins while we were at school, giving hugs and love when needed.  We all heart her.)  She decided that the others must be warned.
For some reason we still can't determine . . . we didn't stop her.
So, ammo in hand, we snuck out into the hall and towards the common room . . . and encountered a couch barricade!  We charged, we threw, all fought bravely.  The barricade was breached.  There were cries of "We are Sparta!" and other movie favorites.
All in all, it was way too much fun.  The best kind.  ^_^

So that was the battle.  Now, for the origin of the Twins.

This began the first day of my first residency.  I was rooming with three other girls/young women.  And the word anime suddenly got tossed into the air.
Thus began my friendship with Sara and Sabrina.  Through Sabrina, we met Adrienne.
Sabrina and Adrienne had started the program one year before Sara and I had, and they had become a package deal at SHU.  Soon enough, Sara and I were the same way.
Sara and I really do have an odd amount of things in common.  We were assigned as critique partners and strangely enough the first pages of both of thesis novels started with blonde girls, with a special attachment to the wind, running through the woods.
Yeah.
Collectively the four of us spent a great deal of time together.  Sara and I even (jokingly) became interchangable.  Being called Katie-Sara and Sara not Kate, etc. etc.
Adrienne and I, if I remember correctly, were the ones that first decided we should all be Empresses that ruled the world as we ate the pizza that preceeded the Battle of Farrell Hall.
The name "Kassaada" is constructed from the first and second letters of all our names.

Later, when our group of friends decided to start a writing group in the wake of the blinding grief of graduation from Seton Hill University, the Empire seemed an appropriate name.
